Maze Studios is a complete recording facility based in the Reynoldstown neighborhood of Atlanta, GA.  Maze is set up to record just about any project that you may have in the pipeline.  We’ve made records with over 10 people playing live, all separated with unique headphone blends and we’ve made them with just one artist, recording layer after layer by themselves. If you can think of it, we’ve probably had to figure out how to do it before.

Our large live room measures 21’ x 22’ with 15’ ceilings.  This makes for very live sounding recordings when you want that.  In addition, we have a drum room called The Cave that measures 10’ x 7’ that is very dead sounding as well. We can also record drums in The Cave with room mics in the live room for a little bit of both.  Check out our Spotify playlists on the home page for great examples of the types of sounds we can achieve.

Our control room is built around a custom DDA Profile console.  Why DDA you might ask?  Well this particular desk was designed by Dave Dearden to be the “SSL killer”.  With 32 channels switchable from mic to line inputs and 24 additional  channels on the right side of the desk for returns plus 24 (YES, TWENTY FOUR BUSSES!) this desk can do anything.   All of the buss outputs are normaled to the Pro Tools inputs so once your source is bussed it’s ready to record.  Finally, the DDA has a custom Inward Connections mix buss fitted with custom transformers designed by Steve Firlotte. This desk sounds great and equally it makes your workflow VERY VERY fast.

The Cave is where we often record drums for a tighter, thicker sound. Think Stevie Wonder’s Innervisions or pretty much any Steely Dan album and you get the idea. This room is also great for percussion, vocals etc.  A pair of sliding glass doors also make it easy to communicate with other players or even set up room mics outside for some ambience.

In addition to The Cave, we have a small bass amp locker as well as two purpose-built guitar iso boxes. The iso-boxes each have speaker cabinets in them, as well as a pair of mics already set up and wired. In all, we are able to record live drums, vocals, bass, 2 live and loud guitars plus any number of DI inputs all at once with as little or as much bleed as you want.

Built in a 100 year old former grocery store, Maze has a LOT of vibe.  It’s rough around the edges and we like that.  It feels a bit like a time warp coming in the space, though we’re not sure if it’s the past or the future we’re walking in to…

The Beltline is a 22 mile long reused freight rail line that has been converted into a bike and pedestrian path that connects dozens of formerly dispersed neighborhoods throughout the city.  We are lucky enough to be located right on the Beltline.  If you were sitting on our front stoop, your feet would be on the Beltline.  Want to head to Ponce City Market for a bite to eat?  That’s a 7 minute bike ride, door to door without ever riding in the street.

We have a lot of gear here at Maze Studios.  It’s a bit of a problem as we’re constantly running out of room.  Need a stereo plate reverb from the 60’s for that Phil Spector sound? Got it. Need a 70’s digital reverb for that Clash snare sound?  Got it.  Need 6 vintage drum kits to choose from? No problem.  Can’t decide whether Neve class A or class AB is the right sound for the vocal?  Again, we have it covered.  Check out our Gear List for the details or just email us and we can talk you through it.
